A smiling man in a suit in the cloisters at St AndrewsThe Royal Economic Society (RES) has named Professor David A. Jaeger a Founding Fellow in recognition of his contribution to economics and its impact on society.

Professor Jaeger joins a group of 58 economists selected in the Society’s inaugural round of Fellowships. The award recognises those who demonstrate excellence, leadership and a commitment to advancing the discipline beyond academia.

Professor Jaeger said: “I feel honoured to be selected as a Founding Fellow of the Royal Economic Society. I value the opportunity to work with colleagues committed to using economics to address real-world challenges.”

RES President Professor Sir Christopher Pissarides, who chaired the judging panel, said: “The panel was impressed by the depth and breadth of the applications it considered, with representation from academia, the public and private sectors and those working in schools.

“Through their applications, our new Fellows demonstrated the impact they have made not just in their roles but also to the wider economics profession. We congratulate them and look forward to working with them to advance the RES vision: that economics be understood, advanced and applied for the good of society and the world around us.”

The next round of applications for RES Fellowships is now open. The deadline is 9 June 2025. Full details are available on the RES website.
