Graphic Crime at University of St Andrews

Friday 24 May 2019

Crime writer Val McDermid was in St Andrews for the launch of a new exhibition of Russian detective artwork at the University this week (Wednesday 22 May).

Lost Detectives: Adapting Old Text for New Media is the adaptation of a 19th century Russian crime story into a graphic novel. Dr Claire Whitehead, Senior Lecturer in the Russian Department of the School of Modern Languages, worked with author-illustrator, Carol Adlam, to adapt the text into illustrated form.

The first ten pages are on display as proof-of-concept with a view to eventually publishing the entire story.

Launched on Wednesday 22 May, the free exhibition will be open to the public in the cloisters of St Salvator’s Quad on North Street until Monday 10 June.

The project was funded by the University’s Knowledge Exchange & Impact Fund (KE&I).

More information on the project can be found by visiting the project website or follow on Twitter  using the hashtag #lostdetectives.
