University’s success at National Catering Awards

Tuesday 4 July 2006

The University of St Andrews has received national commendation in a prestigious catering competition.

The University reached the final stage of the Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) Catering Awards 2006, which were held in Edinburgh last month. Hamish Johnston, Head of Support Services, was presented with an engraved decanter in the ‘highly commended’ category.

The award was sponsored and judged by the Food Standards Agency, the lead body for food safety in Scotland. Entries had been received from catering businesses, hotels and restaurants all over Scotland.

SLTN launched its catering awards in 2004 to recognise and reward business and professional excellence across hospitality and food service in Scotland.

Receiving the award from Dr George Paterson, Director of the Food Standards Agency and Carol Smillie, Mr Johnston said, “Being judged and awarded alongside the best in Scotland reflects the high standard of the systems we operate and the contribution of all involved in catering in our halls of residences and other areas of the University. It’s a credit to everyone involved”.
