3 stars for university apartments

Monday 4 July 2005

David Russell Apartments, the University of St Andrews’ state-of- the-art student residences, have been awarded three-star status by VisitScotland as self-catering holiday lets during the summer.

They join the University’s three- star hotel, New Hall, in setting new standards for this accommodation sector in Scotland.

Each apartment boasts five en- suite double bedrooms and a well- equipped kitchen/sitting room. The recently opened central facilities building contains a bistro and bar.

Peter Guthrie, Sales and Marketing Manager, has no doubts that the apartments will prove a big hit – “They’re ideal for all sorts of holidaymakers. Golf groups, families, walkers and cyclists will all love the flexibility these apartments provide at excellent prices. A golf group of four, for instance, can get seven days accommodation in St Andrews for under £125 per person and still have a bedroom spare for storing clubs and other equipment!”

The University has looked very closely at the environmental impact of the David Russell development, achieving a Silver Green Tourism Award, with work ongoing towards gold.
