Alumni gathering

Tuesday 14 November 2000

A bi-annual gathering of University of St Andrews alumni is coming home as part of the St Andrew’s week celebrations.

The meeting of the General Council, to which all graduates are invited to attend, will take place on Saturday 2 December 2000 and will give alumni a chance to have their say on a range of issues from financial and business matters to the graduate magazine, The Alumnus Chronicle.

Dating back to 1858, the General Council meets twice a year but this is the first time that the winter event has been held in St Andrews for four years. It is hoped that the event will attract a large number of the 2000 alumni living in Fife together with the many alumni based in the Dundee area. Next year’s event, to be held in Edinburgh, will focus on the alumni of the capital city.

Followed by an informal reception, the event will also provide an opportunity for alumni to meet and talk with University representatives and will include addresses by Master of the United Council and Acting Principal Professor Colin Vincent and the Conveners of the Business Committee and Alumnus Association.

The General Council meeting will follow a series of events being organised jointly by the University, Fife Council and the local community to celebrate St Andrew’s Day (30 November 2000). Two public lectures, the traditional church service and a graduation ceremony at the University will take place, all of which are open and free of charge to the student community and public at large.

The General Council meeting, presided over by the Chancellor of the University Sir Kenneth Dover, will be held in Lower College Hall, St Salvator’s Quad, St Andrews at 11am. Agenda papers are available from the Clerk’s office, 79 North Street, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9AJ (telephone 01334 462526).
