Bursaries reception 2002

Wednesday 9 October 2002

Over sixty students from across Scotland were among those awarded bursaries from the University of St Andrews yesterday (Wednesday 9th October).

The awards included thirty-one bursaries worth £500 each for the study of either Chemistry, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics & Astronomy, Computing or Philosophy and ten bursaries worth £250 each for the study of Modern Languages. There were also four Fife Bursary awards of £500 for each year of a student’s degree programme, three bursaries for Scottish mature students and a total of nine golf bursaries supported by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club. One pupil from Forfar Academy was also awarded Adam Smith Thomson Scholarships of £1075 per annum.

This year the awards also include sixteen Royal Bank of Scotland Access Bursaries for Scottish students. Those awards, which pay £1,000 for each year of a bursar’s degree programme, were presented today by the Royal Bank’s Stephanie Allison.

The Chair of the Bursary Committee, Professor Pat Willmer, who presented the awards, said:

“We are delighted to make these awards and we are especially pleased with the number and standard of this year’s applicants. The successful bursars are a most impressive group of students and richly deserve their awards, and we offer them our warmest congratulations.”
