The University of St Andrews has appointed former banking Managing Director Patrick Degg to lead an international fundraising campaign to mark the institution’s 600th anniversary.

Mr Degg (39) has taken up post as Director of Development at St Andrews and will be responsible for delivering a fundraising campaign to support the University’s anniversary celebrations from 2011 to 2013.

Patrick DeggA senior bank officer with more than 15 years’ experience in international finance, Patrick Degg was educated at Cambridge and began his career in finance with HSBC.

He built his career in structured and leveraged finance, from Milan to Hong Kong, and has held senior posts with ING Bank, BNP Paribas and HSBC.  He holds a number of awards, including Best Arranger of LBO Financing and Asia-Pacific Leveraged Deal of the Year from Euroweek Asia, and Best Leveraged Financing from FinanceAsia.

St Andrews is Scotland’s first university and the third oldest in the English-speaking world. Teaching began in St Andrews in 1410 and the University was formally constituted by Papal Bull in 1413.
