Dr Who?

Researchers at the University’s Perception Lab have come up with the definitive Dr Who – by combining the facial features of all 12 actors who have played him.

Head of the Perception Lab Professor David Perrett and researcher Dengke Xiao processed the facial characteristics of actors:

• William Hartnell
• Patrick Troughton
• Jon Pertwee
• Tom Baker
• Peter Davison
• Colin Baker
• Sylvester McCoy
• Paul McGann
• Christopher Eccleston
• David Tennant
• Matt Smith
• Peter Capaldi

ending up with a face that might look familiar to fans of the show.

Ahead of their experiment they wondered whether a composite image would capture the common characteristics shared by each incarnation – quirky, and wise with a touch of adventure.
