Fifty of the best
Fifty of the finest treasures owned by the University of St Andrews are featured in a major new publication launched this week.
The book, ‘Treasures of St Andrews University Library’ highlights the outstanding archive of the library, which includes some 750,000 photographs taken from the days of early photography to the present.
It features some of the collection’s most important and intriguing items including rare books, illuminated manuscripts, photographs and maps, as well as a living archive of the University itself.
The book, compiled by the University’s Special Collections team, is the first major piece of work published in celebration of the institution’s upcoming 600th anniversary.
Speaking at the launch, Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Louise Richardson commented, “Scholars, staff and students at the University of St Andrews are extraordinarily privileged to have such precious resources to draw on as we make our own contributions to our academic community here in Scotland and beyond. I hope that this book will, in its turn, prove a source of inspiration and delight to its readers.”
The book, ‘Treasures of St Andrews University Library’, is priced £15 and is available to purchase from the University library or online via https://onlineshop.st-andrews.ac.uk
