Two golf performance scholars from the University of St Andrews have been selected to represent their home nations in the upcoming Home Internationals in Ireland.

Megan Ashley, a third-year Art History and French student, will represent Scotland while Lucy Jamieson, a second-year Chemistry student, will represent England at Ballyliffin Golf Club, County Donegal, from 3-5 August.

During the Home Internationals event, run by the R&A, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will face each other over three days, with each match consisting of three morning foursomes and six afternoon singles.

Megan said: “It’s already been a great year for me, and I’ve honestly just been having a lot of fun with my golf. I was a little shocked but even more delighted when I received the call! It’s always nice when you feel like your achievements and hard work are acknowledged.

“Now, I’m just excited to get going. I’m really looking forward to seeing the course as it looks like a classic links which I love, and I think might give team Scotland a little advantage, but we’ll see. The standard of golf is going to be incredible to watch, and be a part of, so I’m excited to see how I cope and just give it my all.”

Lucy said: “I’m really proud to be selected by England to play Home Internationals. The experience I gained playing university golf this year has been invaluable, both as an individual and team member. Playing against and alongside quality players throughout the year has really strengthened my game and confidence.”

Ian Muir, Director of Golf at the University of St Andrews added: “Building upon Elise Bishop being selected for Belgium in the recent European Team Championships, it is great to see both Lucy and Megan being selected to represent their respective countries in the upcoming Home Internationals. All girls have had an impressive season and their selections are a nice reward for their hard work and effort throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of our golfers, and we will be looking to build upon this success in the future.”

Saints Sport at the University of St Andrews aims to provide a comprehensive and world-renowned programme for its performance golfers through golf scholarships, which provide all the resources needed for players to take their games to the next level whilst studying at St Andrews. The scholarships are supported and funded through the 600 Club, a community of donors and supporters around the world, alongside Saints Sport and The R&A.

The Saints Golf performance programme is incredibly fortunate to be supported by the St Andrews Links Trust, who provide the University’s top golf scholars with access to the world-class facilities at the Golf Academy all year round.

Saints Golf performance scholars represent the University in tournament golf around the world, competing domestically within the BUCS calendar and across Europe as part of the R&A Elite Student Tour. Additional competitive opportunities include invites to high-level tournaments in North and South America.
