Graduates gather for winter meeting

Thursday 7 December 2006

Over eighty members of the General Council of the University of St Andrews, with graduation dates spanning the last sixty-six years, gathered in London recently.

The group met during the winter meeting of the General Council, held this year at the Royal Over- Seas League in London.

The Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell, Chancellor of the University and President of the General Council, presided while University Principal Dr Brian Lang, addressed the meeting. Members were given the opportunity to put a range of questions to the Principal on current and future activities at the University. Topics included widening access and scholarship programmes and the development of academic facilities such as the new Faculty of Arts Building.

The General Council will next meet in St Andrews on Saturday 30 June 2007 and, continuing the practice of recent years to convene the winter meeting away from St Andrews, the 2007 winter meeting will be held in Manchester.
