Honorary degrees

Figures from the world of science and literature are among those receiving honorary degrees from the University of St Andrews this summer.

Seven graduation ceremonies will take place from Tuesday 24 until Friday 27 June 2003 in Younger Hall, North Street, St Andrews.

WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE – 10.30AM

* Professor Marshall Sahlins – Social Anthropologist – Doctor of Letters

WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE – 3PM

* Adrian S Hollis – Scholar of Ancient Literature – Doctor of Letters

* Professor Sir David A King – Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government – Doctor of Science

THURSDAY 26 JUNE – 10.30AM

* Elizabeth Blackadder – Artist – Doctor of Letters

THURSDAY 26 JUNE – 3PM

* Professor Patricia Goldman-Rakic – Professor of Neurobiology – Doctor of Science

FRIDAY 27 JUNE – 10.30AM

* Professor Kenneth G Lowe – Former Physician to the Queen in Scotland/Former Consultant Physician, Royal Infirmary and Ninewells Hospital, Dundee – Doctor of Science

* Professor Sir Graeme Catto – Vice-Principal, King’s College, London (Physician) – Doctor of Science

FRIDAY 27 JUNE – 3PM

* Kazuo Ishiguro – Author – Doctor of Letters

* The Rt Hon Baroness Betty Boothroyd – Former Speaker of the House of Commons – Doctor of Laws
