International author to visit St Andrews

Tuesday 6 October 2009

Mohsin Hamid, author of the The Reluctant Fundamentalist, will visit the University of St Andrews this week, and will deliver a public lecture on his Man Booker-shortlisted novel.

The acclaimed writer will be introduced by the Principal, Dr Louise Richardson, and all are welcome to attend.

The lecture will be followed by a Question and Answer Session, and then Mr Hamid will sign copies of his book. The book will be on sale at the event at a cost of 5, and all proceeds will go to the University’s Wardlaw Scholarship programme which supports undergraduate students.

Mr Hamid’s visit is the highlight of a new initiative conceived by Dr Richardson and Jonathan Taylor, chairman of the Booker Prize Foundation, in which every new undergraduate student was gifted a copy of The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The unique scheme provided students with a common topic for discussion and was designed to encourage intellectual debate.

The lecture and book signing will take place on Thursday 8th October at 5pm in the Buchanan Lecture Theatre, Union Street, St Andrews. All are welcome.
