Leading women in justice and journalism to be honoured

A former Lord Justice Clerk, a former Commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, and one of the most respected broadcasters in the UK will be awarded honorary degrees by the University of St Andrews at winter graduation next month.

The Right Honourable Lady Dorrian PC KC FRSE, Dr Robert M Califf MD MACC, and Kirsty Young will cross the Younger Hall stage alongside 823 students on December 2 and 3.

They will be joined Raphael Vermeir CBE, one of the pioneers of the St Andrews Prize for the Environment, who will receive the University Medal.

The Class of 2025 students will celebrate gaining both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, with graduands from 81 countries including Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Norway.

There will be professorial inductions at each ceremony.

The December ceremonies will be the first since the death of the University Chancellor Lord Campbell of Pittenweem, and will be presided over by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE.

For family and friends who cannot attend, all ceremonies will be livestreamed.

There will be a short service of thanksgiving each day of graduation at 9.30am in St Salvator’s Chapel, and these services will also be livestreamed.
