Michael Douglas to receive honorary degree

Film producer and actor Michael Douglas is to receive an honorary degree from the University of St Andrews.

Plans are underway for Douglas, also a regular visitor to the town, to be awarded a Doctor of Laws during one of the June graduation ceremonies (20-23 June 2006).

Dr Brian Lang, Principal and Vice- Chancellor said, “We are honouring Michael Douglas in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film. A major figure in contemporary cinema, he is a successful film producer, movie actor and frequent visitor to St Andrews. The event will be all the more timely given the forthcoming, official launch of the University’s Department of Film Studies”.
