MSP to visit his “local”

Tuesday 29 February 2000

North East Fife MSP Iain Smith will gain an insight into the workings of his local University later this week (Friday 3 March 2000).

The visit will give the Liberal Democrat MSP a chance to scroll through the ancient political records of his political predecessors; hear about marine life and conservation issues affecting north-east Fife; and stop off for a quick snack in the student dinner hall!

Mr Smith, who is based in Cupar, is Deputy Minister for Parliament with particular responsibility for the parliamentary handling of the legislative programme. He is also the Liberal Democrat Business Manager and a Member of the Scottish Parliamentary Bureau. A member of Fife Regional Council since 1992, Iain Smith has also been a constituency assistant for Menzies Campbell MP. Before embarking on his political career, he obtained a BA (Hons) at Newcastle University and was an advice centre manager.

Note to Editors – A schedule for Iain Smith’s visit is attached. You are invited to send a reporter/photographer to any stage of the visit.
