Over 100 scholarships recognised
The University of St Andrews has honoured the 120 students who have won scholarships to study at the University.
One hundred and twenty-two scholarships were awarded to undergraduate and postgraduate students this year. The group were welcomed to the University community by the University’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Dr Brian Lang at a reception in St Andrews.
The scholarships range in amounts from £500 to £7,000 per student – those receiving the awards come from the UK, EU, the US, Canada and Rwanda.
Most of the awards have been made possible through the generous donations of alumni and friends of the University, bequests and charitable trusts. Seventeen are being awarded under the Wardlaw Scholarship programme that was established in 2004 to ensure that attending St Andrews was a realistic option for the brightest of students, irrespective of their background or circumstances. The new Wardlaw Scholarships bring the total number of Wardlaw Scholars currently at St Andrews to 100.
Awards include subject-related scholarships for students studying Mathematics, Computer Science, Philosophy, Modern Languages, Chemistry, Social Anthropology and Physics & Astronomy. This includes eight awards supported by the Institute of Physics. Other awards include Evening Degree Scholarships, Mature Student Scholarships and Fife Scholarships, along with the Adam Smith Thomson Scholarship, which assist students from Forfar Academy studying in the Faculty of Science.
The scholarship recipients are studying in all four Faculties across the University, on a range of courses from English to Astrophysics.
