Ranking success for St Andrews Arts and Humanities
The University of St Andrews is amongst the leading universities in the world for research and teaching in the arts and humanities, according to a new ranking.
St Andrews is 35th in the Arts and Humanities World University Rankings 2026, published by Times Higher.
The ranking features over 800 universities from 74 countries, and assesses their performance across 18 indicators of academic strength.
The Fife institution came 35th in the same ranking last year. In holding its place, it has improved its scores in key indicators in the face of increased international competition.
St Andrews scored highly for the quality of its research, research environment, teaching, and international outlook.
Subjects at St Andrews examined by the THE ranking include Art History, Classics, English, Modern Languages, History, Philosophy, and Divinity.
Professor Catherine O’Leary, Assistant Vice-Principal and Dean of Arts, welcomed the new ranking:
“Our continued high ranking recognises our reputation for excellence in the arts and humanities at the University of St Andrews and the intellectual and cultural work of our colleagues that underpins it,” she said.
