Thursday 17 February 2000

One of Scotland’s most successful actresses will return to her alma mater this summer when she receives an honorary degree from the University of St Andrews.

Siobhan Redmond will join fellow Scots Rikki Fulton and Ian Rankin when she is presented with a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) at one of the University’s graduation ceremonies in June. Siobhan, who was born in Glasgow in 1959, graduated with an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of St Andrews in 1981.

The London-based actress is perhaps best-known for her role as Detective Sergeant Maureen Connell in the police series Between the Lines (1992), which is set in the Complaints Investigation Bureau of London’s Metropolitan Police. She has also starred in numerous television series including Every Women Knows a Secret (1999), In the Red (1998), The High Life (1994), Look Back in Anger (1989) and Alfresco (1983), and has played leading roles in several theatre plays.
