St Andrew’s day honours

Friday 11 November 2005

The annual St Andrew’s Day Graduation Ceremony at the University of St Andrews will kick off later this month (Wednesday 30th November) with awards being given to a host of well-known names, both inside and outside the University.

Honorary degrees will be conferred upon footballing legend Denis Law, former rector Sir Clement Freud and The Very Rev Professor D W (Bill) Shaw.

Meanwhile, the second University medal will be presented to Dr Dave Roberts, formerly one of Student Support Services’ Assistant Directors. The award, launched last year, is made to current or former members of staff, alumni of the University or members of the local community.

Dave retired recently and is being awarded for exceptional service to the University as well as the direct support he has given to students over the years. The first University medal was presented last year to the retired long- serving University photographer Peter Adamson.

During the November ceremony the University’s new Professors will also be formally inducted.

The ceremony will take place in the Younger Hall, North Street, St Andrews at 3pm.
