From Kenya to Taiwan, Helsinki to America and beyond, a total of 21 internationally recognised academic colleagues have been awarded Fellowships through the University of St Andrews prestigious Global Fellowship Scheme.

Global Fellows represent some of the most talented and distinguished international scholars who will come to St Andrews over the coming academic year to advance research, deepen collaborative partnerships and engage with academic peers to develop ideas that will make a difference.

Now in its sixth year, the Global Fellowship Scheme was established to welcome colleagues from around the world to St Andrews for one-month visits and offer them the opportunity to create, develop and collaborate across Schools and faculties, to share knowledge, expertise and best practice.

Since its establishment in 2018, the University has welcomed more than 50 researchers and practitioners across a range of disciplines and global regions.

The scheme now comprises of three distinct award strands:

  • The original Global Fellowship strand is an annual call open to all international academics recognised as significant scholars or emerging leaders.
  • The Senior Global Fellowship strand, which accepts nominations directly from Schools, is aimed at established world-leaders in their field with an international reputation for research excellence and a considerable record of achievements, leadership and publications.
  • The Global Fellowship (Education) strand, which also operates via an internal nomination process, welcomes leading practitioners and researchers in the field of education and pedagogy.

Commenting on the new awards, Deputy Principal and Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations), Professor Brad MacKay said:

“The University is honoured to welcome such a diverse and esteemed group of scholars from around the globe to St Andrews in the 2024-2025 academic year to engage, collaborate and innovate with our staff and students. The Global Fellowship Scheme continues to attract leading experts in their fields, who not only support the enhancement of our world-leading research and teaching, but also contribute to forging impactful long-term international partnerships and networks.”
