St Andrews top in UK for student experience

The University of St Andrews is top in the UK for student academic experience, according to the results of the National Student Survey 2022 published yesterday (Wednesday 6 July 2022).

The National Student Survey (NSS) named St Andrews the UK’s top mainstream university, the 14th time in the past 16 years that the Scottish university has been at the very top for student experience.

More than 89% of St Andrews final year students surveyed gave the University top marks for the quality of the learning and teaching experience. The University of St Andrews was also ranked in the top ten for 22 subject areas.

The survey reflects student responses to core questions relating to academic support, learning resources, teaching, management, assessment, personal development, and satisfaction.

Scottish universities have again performed very strongly in the survey, with six ranked among the UK’s top 20.

Vice-Principal Education (Proctor) Clare Peddie said: “We are delighted to rank top once again in the NSS. We value this positive feedback from our student community as it reflects the University’s commitment to the very highest standards of learning, teaching, and student experience.

“The results are a testament to the hard work of our academic and professional service staff during a challenging year to provide students with the highest quality support, innovative learning and contact with some of the best researchers in the world.

“We welcome feedback like this and will continue to listen to students and foster our positive relationship with them.”

President of the Students’ Association Juan Pablo Rodriguez said: “The brilliant results of this year’s NSS are a testament to the joint effort of the University’s staff and Students’ Association at looking after our student community during the process of transition between a world pandemic and our new reality.

“Our commitment to the student population is as strong as ever and we will be sure to continue working in unison to excel at offering the best student experience in the year to come.”
