Students elect new president

Tuesday 19 March 2002

The University of St Andrews Students’ Association has elected a new President.

Fourth-year Modern History student, 22-year old Rory O’Hare will take over the reins from current President Dana Green in July 2002.

Born in Manchester, Rory spent most of his life in Blackpool and attended Cardinal Allen School in Fleetwood. He was, until earlier this year, Director of Nightline, a confidential and anonymous listening and information service run by students for students every night of term time.

During his term of Presidency, Rory hopes to drive forward plans for the refurbishment of the Union and provide a “hands-on style of leadership” for students.

In addition to Rory’s success in the recent elections, the following Vice-Presidents were elected – Marco Biagi (Representation), Hannah Wright (Services) and Kirsty Henderson (Communications).

The Students’ Association was formed in the 1980’s as a result of a merger between the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Students’ Union. All matriculated students are eligible to become members, free of charge.
