Students elect new President

Friday 17 March 2000

The University of St Andrews Students’ Association has a new President.

Final-year Mediaeval History student, 22-year old Marcus Booth has taken over the reigns from former President Stephen Durrant. Born in Guernsey in 1977, Marcus has been a key player with the Association for a number of years – as a first year representative, President of the Union Debating Society, President of the St Andrews Conservative and Unionist Association and organiser of the Kate Kennedy parade. He is currently President of the Kate Kennedy Club.

During his term of Presidency, Marcus hopes to refurbish and revamp the Union, back the student radio station and support the scholarship fund for cash-strapped students.

In addition to Marcus’ success in the recent elections, the Association also has three new Vice-Presidents – Simone Thompson (Communications), Lura Hughes (Services) and Kevin Head (Representation). The Students’ Association was formed in the 1980’s as a result of a merger between the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Students’ Union. All matriculated students are eligible to become members, free of charge.
