Wednesday 14 September 2022

The University of St Andrews will open its doors to students, staff and townspeople who wish to come together to watch a live broadcast of the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Monday 19 September.

The day of the Queen’s funeral has been declared a national holiday with workplaces, schools and other public institutions closing as a mark of respect.

The University will broadcast the state funeral on a large screen in the Younger Hall and all members of the St Andrews community are invited to attend. The Younger Hall will be open from 9am with the broadcast featuring coverage ahead of the funeral beginning at 11am. There will be two minutes’ silence at 12 noon.

Following the end of the funeral, the screening will continue so those gathered can watch full coverage of events in London.

University of St Andrews Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE, said: “We recognise this is a significant and historic day and we would like to offer an opportunity for members of the University and wider St Andrews community to come together if they wish.”

Following the state funeral, the formal period of national mourning will end.
