Walk to work raises £886.56 for Ninewells

Sunday 13 July 2003

The University’s first Walk / Cycle to work event last month raised a total of £886.56 for Ninewells Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit.

Health-conscious staff were sponsored to take part in the initiative which saw them make their own way to St Andrews from places as far flung as Guardbridge, Ceres, Balmullo, Cupar, Wormit, Cellardyke, Perth, Aberdour and Dalgety Bay.

Sandy Wilkie, the University’s Staff Development Manager and organiser of the event said:

“I was delighted at the enthusiasm of the University staff who took part in our first Walk/Cycle to Work event. In the process of raising awareness of a healthy lifestyle, we also succeeded in raising £886.56 for Ninewells”

On behalf of the cardiac rehabilitation team at Ninewells, Aileen Johnston, a Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse, said:

“The University’s generous donation will enable us to continue to improve the service that we offer our patients, for example to help us continue to improve our exercise equipment, relaxation tapes and personal risk factor cards.”
