The first academic research centre in the World to focus on Syrian culture, politics and history will open at the University of St Andrews tomorrow (Friday 3rd November 2006).

A new institute examining everything from the security challenges and cultures to the histories and language of the Middle East, Central Asia and Caucasus has been created at the University of St Andrews.
