Classic ‘first’ in St Andrews
The University of St Andrews will host the first of a series of new events organised by the ‘reborn’ Tayside Classical Association tomorrow (Wednesday 13th November, 2002).
In the first event of two to be held every year, Professor Michael Crawford of University College London, will deliver his lecture entitled ‘The Alternative State and the Fall of the Roman Republic’.
Professor Crawford is one of the foremost Roman historians and is the author of ‘The Roman Republic’, ‘Roman Statutes’ and ‘Roman Republican Coinage’.
Dr Jason Koenig, a new lecturer at the University’s School of Greek, Latin and Ancient History will also deliver a lecture, ‘Greek Athletics Under the Roman Empire’. Dr Koenig, an expert in ancient athletics and Greek and Roman literature and culture, is also secretary to the Association.
The event, to be held at Lower College Hall, St Andrews, is open to the public and costs £2 to non- members of the Association. It is free to members of the Association. It begins at 2pm and will last until around 4pm.
