Golfers’ honorary degrees – press arrangements

Seve Ballesteros and Colin Montgomerie will receive honorary degrees from the University of St Andrews next month (Tuesday 18 July 2000).

The golfers will both receive a Doctor of Laws degree at a ceremony in Younger Hall, North Street, St Andrews.

A joint laureation address will be given by Acting Principal of the University, Professor Colin Vincent, followed by a talk on the ancient links between the University, the town and golf by Professor Ian Carradice of the School of Art History. The degrees will be presented by the Chancellor of the University, Sir Kenneth Dover.

You are invited to send a reporter/photographer to the ceremony which starts at 4pm. Due to demand, press tickets should be obtained from Claire Grainger as soon as possible (contact details below). Press are asked to be seated by 3.45pm at the latest. The event is expected to end at 4.30pm after which there will be a private reception. You are also invited to send a reporter/photographer to a photocall on the lawn, St Salvator’s Quad at 5pm. It is expected that the golfers will leave at approximately 5.20pm.
