Honorary degrees

TV funnyman Rikki Fulton, author JK Rowling and actress Siobhan Redmond are among those being awarded honorary degrees by the University of St Andrews next week.

Five graduation ceremonies will be held on Wednesday 21 June, Thursday 22 June and Friday 23 June 2000 in Younger Hall, North Street, St Andrews.

Wednesday 21 June 2000 – 10.30am – Graduation Address by Professor Jeffrey Sanderson, Vice-Principal and Proctor

Ian Rankin, Author – Doctor of Letters – Laureation by Dr Tom Normand, School of Art History

Joseph Swensen, Conductor, Violinist and Composer – Doctor of Music – Laureation by Dr Mark Hindley, Acting Director of Music

Wednesday 21 June 2000 – 3pm – Graduation Address by Andrew Menzies, Quaestor and Factor

Professor Uta Frith, Developmental Psychologist – Doctor of Science – Laureation by Professor Derek Johnston, Head of School of Psychology

Photocalls will take place on St Salvator’s lawn, to the west of Younger Hall, after each ceremony (which will last approximately one and a half hours).

Acting Principal of the University Professor Colin Vincent and Chancellor Sir Kenneth Dover will preside over the ceremonies.
