New Chinese scholarships announced

Monday 21 September 2015

The University of St Andrews will offer up to 40 scholarships to Chinese students as part of a new agreement with the China Scholarship Council.

The very best students will be selected from China’s top 200 universities for the new programme.

Up to 30 new scholarships per year will be granted to full PhD students, who will graduate at the University of St Andrews.

A further 10 will be awarded for Joint PhD students taking a period of research in St Andrews, but graduating at their home institution in China.

The Council will cover all maintenance and living expenses for up to four years of a PhD.

Recruitment for the scholarships will begin immediately, with interviews taking place in January 2016 for entry later in that year.

The Secretary General of the China Scholarship Council visited the University at the weekend (Saturday 19 September 2015) to officially sign the agreement.

The University’s Director of Admissions, Julie Ramsay, welcomed Dr Liu and her colleague Mr Li to St Andrews, following a delegation to China led by the University’s Principal, Professor Louise Richardson, last year.

She said: “This collaboration supports the brightest minds from China to further their studies at the University of St Andrews and reinforces the strong and important links between St Andrews and China. Our successful scholars will not only leave their mark on St Andrews and China but also the rest of the world.”
