Principal’s installation

The Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St Andrews will be officially installed later this week (Friday 27 April 2001).

The installation of Dr Brian Lang, who joined the University in January 2001, will be held in Younger Hall, North Street St Andrews at 11am. The event will be followed by a colourful procession from Younger Hall, along North Street and through the arch of St Salvator’s Chapel to Lower College Hall.

Dr Lang will be inducted as Principal by the most senior Professor on Senate, Professor T S Blyth and inducted as Vice- Chancellor by the University Chancellor, Sir Kenneth Dover. The Chancellor will also ask Rector Andrew Neil to officially accept Dr Lang on behalf of the student community. Dr Lang will then give an address.

Appointed in July 2000, Dr Lang succeeded Professor Struther Arnott who retired in December 1999 after 13 years in post. Dr Lang was previously the Chief Executive of the British Library.
