Student comes up smiling
St Andrews student Thomas Grimes had a smile on his face last night (Friday 30 September 2011) when he was awarded a prize by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges.
Thomas, who graduated in the summer, won third prize in the Scottish Software Engineer of the Year Award. He was presented with a trophy and a cheque for £1500 at a ceremony in Edinburgh. The award was granted for a project devised by Tom that involved the creation of screen replication software for the Mac that also works for Windows and Linux systems.
Computer Science graduate Tom follows in the footsteps of other prize winners from St Andrews, who in recent years have included Alistair Scott, Craig Paul, Angus MacDonald, Ben Catherall and Graeme Bell. Tom (23), who is originally from Liverpool, is currently working towards his Masters in Computer Forensics in the US.
