Student telephone campaign

Tuesday 8 February 2000

University of St Andrews students are dialling their way to pound signs as part of a telephone campaign to raise cash for a range of University projects.

It is hoped that the 35-strong team will meet the £180,000 target when they call around 4000 alumni throughout the UK during the five- week campaign.

Projects which may benefit from the appeal include the Completion Loans Scheme aimed at helping final-year undergraduates with their finances, an access school designed to make St Andrews more user-friendly to socially disadvantaged students and a high- tech computer centre which will alleviate over-demand for computer facilities within the University.

Development Officer Barry Ferguson said, “We are fortunate to have one of the most loyal bodies of alumni in any UK university and the telephone campaign is an excellent way of enabling them to support the future of the University and its students. The campaign also gives today’s students an opportunity to make personal contact with their predecessors at minimal cost to the University”.

The first University of St Andrews telephone campaign took place on 1994 and, in the last two years, has generated funds of over £200,000.
