Winners of schools’ classics competition
The winners of an annual schools competition aimed at raising the profile of the classics have been announced today.
The Schools’ Classics Competition saw recitations in Latin and Greek and presentations on numerous projects on a classical theme. It is run by the University’s School of Greek, Latin and Ancient History for the Tayside Association of Classical Teachers.
The winners are as follows:-
Junior Latin St Margaret’s School, Aberdeen Madras College, St Andrews
Intermediate Latin – Jennie Strathairn, St Leonards School, St Andrews Sarah Johnson, St Margaret’s School, Aberdeen Faye Berland, High School of Dundee
Senior Latin – Laura Dey, St Margaret’s School, Aberdeen Hazel Pearson, Madras College, St Andrews Kate Dunlop, St Leonards School, St Andrews
Greek – Olivia Brown, Glenalmond College, Perthshire
Junior Projects – Shelley Rodger, Kirriemuir High School, Kirriemuir Lesley McLaren, Kirriemuir High School, Kirriemuir
Merit Certificates – Fiona Armstrong, Harris Academy, Dundee Rachel Kiltie, St Margaret’s School, Aberdeen James Potton, Madras College, St Andrews Michelle Cooper, High School of Dundee Vicki Rutherford, St Margaret’s School, Aberdeen
Both Kirriemuir High School and Dundee’s Harris Academy entered the competition for the first time.
