University pays tribute to Deputy Principal

The University yesterday paid tribute to Deputy Principal David Corner with an honorary degree. David, who has worked for the University since 1975, was made a Doctor of Letters alongside golfer Charlie Sifford (Doctor of Laws) and Professor of Physics, Theodor Hansch (Doctor of Science). The laureation address (below) was given by Principal Dr Brian Lang.

OOP PhD

A 78 year old lady epitomised the phrase 'lifelong learning' when she received her PhD from the University of St Andrews today (Friday 23 June 2006).

Honorary graduates 23rd June (am)

The University this morning conferred degrees upon Professor of Physic Sir Keith Peters and the writer William Dalrymple. They are pictured (left-right) with John Mackie, who was awarded the University medal.

Honorary degrees were conferred yesterday afternoon upon (lef- right) David Corner, Charlie Sifford and Professor Theodor Hansch. The are pictured afterwards with (far left) Principal and Vice-Chancellor Dr Brian Lang and (far right) Chancellor Sir Menzies Campbell, who took on the role of conferring degrees for the first time yesterday.

‘Absolutely Fabulous’ graduation

Actress Joanna Lumley and naturalist Sir John Lister-Kaye were awarded honorary degrees in yesterday morning's graduation ceremony (pictured above afterwards).

Honorary degrees were conferred today (Wednesday 21st June) upon Hollywood actor and producer Michael Douglas (pictured with his wife, the actress Catherine Zeta- Jones) and businessman and founder of Kwik-Fit, Sir Tom Farmer (pictured right).
