Project to save Kenyan lake wins St Andrews prize

A project aimed at saving the world's second largest fresh water lake and its people from environmental hazards was today (Friday 11 May 2001) awarded the prestigious St Andrews Prize, an annual initiative aimed at finding new and inspiring ideas to help the environment.

Centres to help solve UK conservation problems

Two research centres which will bring together environmental experts, mathematicians and wildlife statisticians to help solve some of the UK's biggest conservation problems are to be developed at the University of St Andrews.

Closing soon: environment prize

The initial closing date for the St Andrews Prize, an internationally acclaimed initiative aimed at finding new and inspiring ideas to help the environment, is fast approaching. Launched in September 2000, the annual initiative, which is co- sponsored by the University and international energy company Conoco, is offering $25,000, a medal and the encouragement of government, business and academic institutions in return for an innovative and original solution to an environmental problem. There will be additional awards, each of $5,000, for the runners-up.
